Intragna, Centovalli, Ticino, 2002. Family house restoration:
“…the house was already there… it was a matter of rediscovering its archetype”. This was the concept that accompanied the design and architectural research work of Casa Mattanza.
The first step was to “clean” the building of everything superfluous that it had accumulated over time, until reaching that degree of optimum identifiable as the essential, as a synthesis of historical sequences stabilised over time.
The next step involved the ‘realisation’ phase. Following the concept, the technical-plant apparatus of the dwelling was concentrated on the load-bearing walls of the central stairwell, placing compartments in it to house the electrical and sanitary installations; in this way, the other internal walls did not undergo any interventions.
